Vajra Enterprises Style Guide

Vajra Web Books

ANNOUNCEMENT: We have so many RPG projects we are currently working on that we aren't beginning any more RPG writing projects at this time. You may still request an co-author instruction packet to prepare a submission for a later date, but we are not currently looking for new coauthors.

Vajra Enterprises is looking for co-authors to help write a number of Role Playing Games we have already planned out. These games will be relatively short (~180 pages) and will use Modern ORC (the Organic Rule Components plus the modern day equipment and skills from In Dark Alleys), meaning each book will have only about 125 pages of new material, about half of which will be the responsibility of the coauthor.

The books will be published online in PDF format and will be sold in printed form via online print-on-demand services. They will have modest art and advertising budgets. Coauthors will not be responsible for editing, page layout, art direction or advertising. If market factors indicate that it would be profitable to do so, Vajra Enterprises will do a print run of the books for distribution to game retailers.

We’re only looking for one co-author per book and we don’t want a co-author working on more than one book at a time. Co-authors will be paid 1/3 cent per word for text used in the book and a percentage of the net profits equal to the percentage of the text in the book that was written by the co-author (e.g. if the co-author wrote half the material in the book the co-author would receive 50% of all net profits). The amount of a co-author’s contributions which are published in the book depend on how quickly the co-author wrote and how much of the co-author’s work was cut during the editing and page layout process (material may be cut due to quality and space concerns). Vajra Enterprises has the final say on all editorial decisions.

How To Be Considered As A Co-Author- You must sign the following non-disclosure agreement. Afterwards you will receive, by post, a list of current concepts for web books. Choose only one and send, via email or post, a 1 to 5 page writing sample of RPG background material based on that concept. We will inform you immediately when we receive the sample and then notify you at a later date whether or not you have been chosen as a co-author. If you are not chosen you can submit a writing sample from another game concept.

Non-Disclosure Agreement- I agree that I will not give copies to or tell people about any of the information I receive as part of my request to be considered as a co-author. I also promise I will not use any of the ideas in any fiction or game without the permission of Vajra Enterprises. If I break any of these promises I will pay Vajra Enterprises all reasonable damages, including projected loss of income in the future stemming from my use or distribution of the information I have received.

    Vajra Enterprises Style Guide

The Once A Week Rule- Anyone working with Vajra Enterprises in a for-pay project must check in with Vajra Enterprises at least once every week by email, post or phone. The message must state what, if any work, has been done on the project and what the prospects for work in the near future are. An example email: “Hi Brian, I didn’t get any work done on the project this week, I’m hoping to get a few pages written next week.”

    Submission Agreement:

The purpose of this document is to allow Vajra Enterprises to review submissions from individuals without fear that doing so will make Vajra Enterprises vulnerable to intellectual property theft lawsuits if there are coincidental similarities between the submission and a Vajra Enterprises product.

I, the undersigned, am submitting materials to Vajra Enterprises to be considered for possible sale to Vajra Enterprises of the ideas contained therein or possible hiring of myself as a writer, editor or game designer.

I, the undersigned, certify that these materials are my intellectual property and that no other party holds a copyright, trademark or patent claim on them.

In exchange for such consideration, I, the undersigned, hereby agree to the following:

I indemnify Vajra Enterprises against any claims of infringement of copyright, trademark or patent that are based on a similarity between the materials I am submitting and a product that Vajra Enterprises subsequently created, with the following exception:

The indemnification is revoked only if a panel of 5 game-publishing industry experts, agreed upon by both myself and Vajra Enterprises, unanimously agrees, in good faith, that, in their opinion, there is a less than 1 in 100 chance that the similarities between my submission and the subsequent Vajra Enterprises product is because Vajra Enterprises independently created or would have independently created the product in absence of the submission.

In other words, I will not seek damages unless a panel says there is a less than 1% chance Vajra Enterprises could have come up with this idea independently.

If the panel is going to be compensated in any way, I will pay the full cost of the compensation. Both I and Vajra Enterprises will have 30 days to submit evidence to this panel. After the panel has made their decision in good faith, neither party has the right to ask for any reconsideration.

Contract law of the United States and California shall apply. This agreement shall be deemed as being made in California.
